Question Re: 2005 Mustang Trailer Towing
I have a 2005 Mustang. It's just a 4 cylinder automatic.
I would like to be able to pull an enclosed cargo trailer with it. I would like a 5X8 but I'm afraid loaded it will be to heavy, so I might go with a 4X6.
Will my car be able to pull it?
Answer:Hi Sherry. Sorry to take so long to answer. I'm a one man show.
First off, unless you have a typo on the year of your Mustang, there was no option for a 4 cylinder engine.
The 2005 Mustang came with one of two options. The 4.6 liter V8 engine, with 300 horsepower and a 4.0 liter V6 engine, with power at 210 horsepower, an increase from 190 hp the previous year.
From what I understand, the maximum you can tow is about 1,000 lbs. But to be sure, I'd recommend that you consult your owners manual to make sure that is correct for 2005 Mustang Trailer Towing in a V6 equipped car.
It's not that the new Mustang is underpowered, so much as the fact that the V6 has to haul around a fairly heavy vehicle with the 2005 model tipping the scales at around 3300 lbs.

Hope that helps.
