1993 Mustang GT V8 Starter Removal and Replacement

Question:

How do you remove top bolt from the starter on a 1993 Ford Mustang with the 5.0 liter V8?

Answer:

Hopefully you are not blessed with big bones! This is not one of my favorite parts replacements, but it can be done with a little patience.

The 1993 fox body Mustang, and later years, like the 1994 and 1995 Mustang have an access hole, cut out in the inner fender on the passenger side.

You'll need to jack up the car, remove the tire and get your wrench in there to reach the starter bolts and the wiring.

The only way I've been able to remove the top bolt on the starter is through the hole, but I've had a friend, with thinner arms than me, who was able to reach it with an open end wrench from underneath the car.

This repair is not easy either way, but that's the way to reach it. If you have to remove all the wiring back to the battery and ignition, there are a number of clips holding it tight around the bottom of your 5.0 liter.

Good Luck!
